Ideal for anyone with some outdoor climbing experience wishing to progress onto lead climbing, this 2-day course will teach you the fundamental basics of Traditional rock climbing. With guidance from our experienced instructors, you will learn the following:
The history, ethics and progression of climbing
Belaying a lead climber and essential rope-work skills
Protecting yourself on a climb by placing your own gear
Climbing techniques whilst lead climbing
Setting up anchors at the top of a climb
Belaying a second climber and removing gear
Communication between climbers
Potential hazards and avoidance…
And lots of climbing
Based on your previous experience, climbing ability and aspirations, our instructors will select an appropriate location for you to build on your previous knowledge and learn new skills. Lead climbing is a serious undertaking and you will not be an expert after 2 days of tuition. However, this course will provide you with the necessary fundamental skills to practice and develop further on your journey to becoming a competent lead climber, one we all must undertake.
